Battles Collectors Edition
Unlike many collector's editions or value packs that hit the shelves of your local computer game store, Interactive Magic Inc.'s Great Battles Collector's Edition is more than just a repackaging of old titles. In fact, the publishers and developers of this collector's edition have included not only new scenarios but a brand new, first time ever, Scenario Editor which can be used with the previous three titles in the Great Battles series. The full and most recent versions of Great Battles of Alexander, Great Battles of Hannibal and Great Battles of Caesar are part of the collector's package, replete with all scenarios that shipped with the original titles. Three completely new scenarios have been added, one for each game. For fans of the original series, you'll now be able to takeover and direct Alexander the Great's army at Paraitacene (317BC), Hannibal's forces at Dertosa (215BC), and Caesar's legions during the battle at the Rhine (58BC). The inclusion of a Scenario Editor in this collector's edition injects new life into the games and puts unlimited strategic possibilities into the hands of the consumer. Enhanced graphics, complete tutorials for all games and the scenario editor, and over thirty battlefields from ancient history highlights Great Battles Collector's Edition.
Each game recreates the important battles in the title generals career. The battles are played from a semi-3D view. Combat is turned base, and emphasis is put on the leadership qualities of the generals. This is accomplished through the use of command points. Each general can only command troops close to him, and has a limited number of units he can command each turn. Some of the battles involve many dozens of units.
The campaign game simply consists of the battles linked together. All the battles can be played from either side, creating 33 different battles to be fought. The units are based on actual historical unit strengths and weaknesses, and their is extensive information about the units in the manual and online reference.
